Even though I had always loved pregnancy and birth it wasn’t until I experienced it for myself that I became obsessed with it. I have always been more into natural treatments and cures instead of medical ones, so when I became pregnant I did not want a hospital birth but a home birth. Our insurance wouldn’t pay for a home birth but would pay for a birth center birth so we opted for a birth center. Unfortunately, after a long painful labor I was sent to Loma Linda for an emergency C-Section. It was a very traumatic experience and to top it off we were told by the doctor that my pelvis is shaped wrong (CPD) and I would never be able to have a vaginal birth. The good that came from all this was my passion to learn all I could to help save others from traumatic birth experiences. I started attending friends and family births as a self taught doula in 1996 with the focus on becoming a midwife someday.
When I became pregnant with our second son I felt the doctors were wrong and that I could have a vaginal birth, however because of what they had put on my chart about my pelvis the midwife at the birth center would not let me birth there. She did however get to be my midwife at the hospital where they would allow me to attempt a vaginal birth (TOLAC). I did a lot of research on ways to help a baby through a tight pelvis, I did the exercises, got massages, took herbs and our son was almost born at home, barely made it to the hospital. This confirmed to me even more that there are so many unnecessary C-Sections and I was happy to have this knowledge to help others avoid C-Sections and accomplish V-BAC’s.
It took me many years to reach my goal of becoming a midwife as we were raising our family, however I kept active in doula work, doing personal study / research on birth and midwifery, until it was the right time to join a midwifery school and eventually reached my goal in becoming a licensed midwife. Midwifery is a great and beautiful adventure that I fully enjoy.
I’d happy to be a part of your birth adventure, contact me,
